Music video for Hello Pity — An Idea Of Guilt part II remix by The KVB
The Berlin based post-punk band Hello Pity reached out to direct their music video "An Idea of Guilt part II" remix by the KVB. This case study delves into the creative process behind this dark and gloomy music video, which seamlessly blends an enigmatic narrative with dynamic visual elements.
Inspired by 80's music videos of goth bands such as Sisters of Mercy or Bauhaus.
The concept of the music video revolves around an androgynous figure dancing within a dense fog while stroboscopic lights create a visually disturbing backdrop. Despite their obscured face, the focus centers on the lipsyncing mouth, illuminated by an embedded LED light. This intriguing juxtaposition of elements creates an ambiance of mystery and self-expression, reflecting the essence of the song's title, "An Idea of Guilt."
An extra distinctive approach was created with lyrics animation to enhance the video's impact. The type animation of the lyrics were animated word by word and then projected onto the protagonist's body. This motion design served as a visual representation of the song's emotions, weaving the lyrical narrative into the dancer's movements. A shadowplay of light and fog.
